Positioned near the Bosnian National Theatre, the library, administrative and residential buildings, and a spacious square, this space offered great potential for a modern gathering place.
Our vision was to integrate the square and the cafe into a unified space. The large hall seamlessly opens to the square, creating a covered extension of the public space. The main entrance is transformed into a fine bakery, accessible from both inside and outside. Additional spaces host artisan shops, a flower shop, a wine store, and other retail offerings.
The interior features distinct zones, each with a unique ambiance:
Business & Casual Zone – A space for meetings, remote work, and quick coffee breaks.
Restaurant & Social Area – Designed for dining, group gatherings, and special occasions.
Market Stalls – Seasonal pop-ups offering fresh produce, handcrafted goods, holiday treats, and more.
Lounge & Tea Room – A cozy retreat with comfortable seating for relaxed conversations.
Glass-Walled Kitchen & Brewery/Pub – A dynamic food and drink experience with an open view.
During the reconstruction of the building’s facade, we followed the principles of restoration and conservation. We preserved the original concrete facade with distinct imprints of the formwork, which represents a unique and irreplaceable reflection of a specific period and architectural style of the 20th century. All visible concrete damage was successfully repaired, with a clear distinction between the old concrete and the new restoration interventions. The entire concrete facade was then impregnated and protected from further deterioration, ensuring that the building was preserved as a valuable monument of its time.
Additionally, the careful preservation of these elements not only maintains the historical and architectural significance of the building but also enhances its cultural legacy for future generations. By respecting the original design while implementing necessary interventions, we have ensured that the facade retains its original character while being safeguarded against future wear and damage.
